Percussion

Percussion Director:  Kolby Kelly

The Percussion Ensemble class is designed to give the students a chance to study percussion of all genres. In the fall, the focus mainly on marching percussion and All-Region music, which helps the students better understand music and their role in the band program, as well as preparing them for city and region-wide competition. In the spring, they focus strictly on concert percussion, exposing students to all aspects of percussion and not limiting anyone to one discipline. This enhances the band program by giving the students a well-rounded percussion musical experience.

The Lamar Percussion Ensemble won 1st place as Best Marching Show and Best Pit Award in the 2010 Lone Star Drumline Competition. The Band of Americas accepted the Lamar Percussion Ensemble to perform in March, 2009. Out of 25 groups from around the nation who submitted tapes, Lamar was in the first seed group.

The Lamar Percussion Ensemble won 1st place as Best Marching Show and Best Snare Line in the 2008 Lone Star Drumline Competition.
