VIKING BAND TUTORING — This week we began our normal tutoring and study hall routine. After school from 2:45 — 3:45, tables are set up in the band hall for students to do homework and get tutoring from their band peers. A list of available tutors for various subjects is posted in the band hall. We encourage all students to take advantage of this time. This week we had a great turn out of about 35 kids per day. We even ran out of table space!
FOOTBALL GAME #3 (KELLER CENTRAL) — We have our third football game this Saturday. Because of the forecast for very formidable weather, we will be wearing the full uniform for the first time. This adds a layer of responsibility onto the students. They must show up to the band hall in long black socks, the “triangle shirt”, and lose gym shorts to wear under the marching uniform. We will do a performance day rehearsal from 4:00-5:00 on Saturday. At 5:30 we will depart for Keller. The game starts at 7pm. When the students board the bus, they will be handed a sack lunch which the band booster club has generously put together for the members. We should return between 10:30 and 11:00. I will send a message via iZigg when we are close to home. (For information on iZigg, read the bottom of this message.) It is important that your student is picked up as soon as they are released from the band. Many students have equipment assigned to them to put away. Some students can leave as soon as we return.
PASSBOOKS (update) — The passbook sale has ended. Students MUST turn in the $30 per book by this Friday at 2:45. If they can’t sell the 3 books they were issued, they can turn in the books to a director by 2:45 on Friday. Any books after this date/time will need to be sold or paid for by the student. The top three sellers will be announced after Friday and will be awarded their prize shortly as soon as possible.
PERFORMANCES — We will be participating in the community pep rally on Monday Sept. 24th at 7pm. This pep rally will be held at Cravens field and is open to the public. This is a great time to show school spirit! On Oct. 2nd we will participate in the annual Dean Corey Band night. This is another great chance to support the band. We will know or approx. performance time as we get closer to the date.
DICKEY’S BBQ FUND RAISER – Come eat at the Dickey’s BBQ on Ballpark Way and Lamar on Wednesday, September 12th and support the Drum Line. Drum line members will be working for tips to raise money to be used towards the purchase of needed equipment. Come any time between 5 and 8 pm and look for your drum line members! We will be receiving 15% of all receipts that are put into the Lamar receipt bucket, plus tips. So pass this on to your friends and families and come hungry!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — We have many events this fall that require parent support. To help with band events, you must be and AISD approved volunteer. The application can be found at aisd.net. After approved, go to the band website to find out more. https://lamarmusic.org/
FORMS AND FEES — Band forms and fees are due. Students that did not come to band registration should get this in to a director ASAP. Students will not travel with the band if they have missing forms. Students should also have paid their band fee.
TEXTING WITH IZIGG — The band has started a new form of communication: text broadcasting with iZigg. This program allows the directors to send important updates via text. This will mostly be used in situations where information needs to be sent quickly. Examples might be an alert when we are only 10 mins from Lamar after an away football game, or the band made finals at a competition and will be performing at a new time. To sign up, just send a text to the number 90210 and put LHSband in the message. You will then receive occasional messages about band events. If you ever want to opt out, just send STOP in the message.
