Weekly Announcements 12/12/12

CHRISTKINDL — The brass and woodwind ensemble classes performed last Friday. The weather was nice and the students played very well. They also behaved extremely well and Mrs. Burum and I couldn’t have been more proud of them. Bill Huff, Director of Fine Arts for AISD, was also very proud of their performance. We hope to make this an annual event.

DICKEY’S BBQ FUNDRAISER — Come eat at the Dickey’s BBQ on Ballpark Way and Lamar, Wednesday, December 12th and support the Drumline. Drumline members will be working for tips to raise money to be used towards the purchase of needed equipment. Come any time between 5 and 8 pm and look for your drumline members! We will be receiving 15% of all receipts that are put into the Lamar receipt bucket, plus tips. So pass this on to your friends and families and come hungry!

SPRING TRIP – – The December trip payment is due this Friday Dec. 14th.

TMEA ALL-REGION PHASE 1 — The Lamar band had 4 brass students advance to phase 2 auditions. Donovan Jones, Jason Breedlove, Daniel Dickey and Austin Britt will all audition Sat. morning for a chance at making the All-Region and All-Area bands. Great job guys and good luck! The woodwinds will audition at phase 1 on Thursday.

TMEA ALL-REGION PHASE 2 — The LBBC and band directors have been working hard to iron out all the details for this weekend’s big event. We are still in need of a few more adult volunteers to be room monitors, help with concessions and help in the setup and cleanup. We need a lot more sheets or tarps to be used as a barrier between the performers and the judges. Sheets will be returned after the contest. Finally, we also need people to donate soup in a large crockpot to serve to the judges as their lunch on Saturday afternoon. Please contact the band boosters if you can help in any wa y! We really appreciate your help in making this very important band contest run smoothly at LHS. If you can help please contact Tamara Sandoval at Tamara.Sandoval@fmr.com

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM — The process for leadership selection for next school year will begin in January. We are bringing in Peter Ferrito to teach a leadership and team building workshop on Jan. 21st. This all day workshop will include an informative Q&A with Mr. Ferrito and many team building exercises. The directors are hoping to have as many band students as possible involved in this great team building activity. We believe this program will help the Lamar band grow as a team during the spring semester. The max number of participants will be 60 so be sure to get the participation forms signed and turned in ASAP. There will be a $22 fee to cover the cost of the leadership manuals that Mr. Ferrito will bring on the day of the workshop. This workshop is the first step for those interested in att aining a leadership role in the band. More info on Mr. Ferrito athttp://www.teens2teams.com/services/high_school_bands.html

BAND HOODIES — We still have plenty of LHS Band hoodies for sale. These make great Christmas gifts. If you would like to surprise somebody, contact the LBBC or Mr. Lang to order one as a surprise. They are $25 and checks are made to the LBBC.
