UPDATE 6-7-13

WELCOME NICHOLS FRESHMEN! – Below is the weekly newsletter. I hope you find it informative and a valuable resource.

NEW MEMBER MARCHING – Tomorrow at 9:00am we will have a freshmen band orientation. We will distribute music, school instruments, try on summer uniforms and do a little marching and playing. The band directors and students leaders are excited to help the new members feel welcome!

VIDEO YEAR BOOK – A HUGE thank you to Brent Dow for putting together a video yearbook for the Lamar band to enjoy. We showed this during classes on Thursday. The following link will allow you to watch online or download for later viewing. It is a 750MB file so it will take a while to download. If you would like a DVD or flash drive copy, come by the band office next week.

Viking Band Weekly Announcements 6-5-13

WELCOME FRESHMEN! – This email is a weekly email that I, Alan Lang, Director of Bands, sends out to keep everybody informed of the Lamar band events. I hope you find this email useful and as always, please contact me or another director if you have any questions. The band hall number is 682-867-7006

END OF THE YEAR – I always have mixed emotions this time of year. I’m excited to finish another great year with the Pride of Lamar, and I’m also sad to see the seniors graduate. I’m very proud of the accomplishments of the band students here at Lamar this year. I look forward to another great ride next year. We are already very busy preparing for the marching season. We just verified some marching contests this afternoon. The marching show design is still a work in progress. The emails will continue this summer but they will be brief. The 4th of July is right around the corner and there is much to do to prepare for that big parade.
Sincerely,
Alan Lang

CONCERT CD’S – If you didn’t receive a CD for a concert, contact myself or Mr. Bibb.

NEW MEMBER MARCHING CAMP — The new member marching camp will be Saturday June 8th from 9:00am to noon. New members and the future leadership will be required to attend. We will teach basic marching, distribute school instruments, order summer uniforms and much more. ALL drumline members need to attend.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS – The band directors will be in and out of the band hall all summer. In June, I will be at school Monday through Thursday from 8am – 3pm. I am available for tutoring all of June and look forward to working with students every day!

SUMMER CAMPS – There are many great summer band camps in north Texas. The band directors strongly encourage all band students to look into attending a summer camp. We have information in the band office if anybody is interested. Follow this link for a really great brass camp.

COLOR GUARD – The color guard will hold its annual summer camp from June 12-14 at LHS. On Saturday the 15th, the guard will be working at the Sonic on Randol Mill from 1-5. Sonic will donate part of every purchase to the Lamar color guard. Donations are also accepted. Please plan on coming by Sonic, using a Pride card and supporting the Pride of Lamar color guard!

NEW TEXT PROGRAM — The band will be switching to the new and FREE text program next fall. The LHS band will be using Remind101 for all band text updates. Instructions are attached to this email. Text updates will still also be sent via 90210 until mid-June.
