Announcements 9/27/15

THE NEXT TWO WEEKS – The upcoming two weeks are going to be very busy. It is very exciting but time management will be the key to our success as well as our health and well being. I want students to get 7-9 hours of sleep nightly, eat three healthy meals a day and drink 8-10 glasses of water (2 liters). Keeping up with homework is critical. We will have some “study halls” during band class when the schedule is the tightest. I will do my best to keep you informed with itineraries and of course reminders via the text service. Thank you to all those parents who will be volunteering is some capacity over the next two weeks. If you think you can help with something, contact

LBBC PROVIDED MEALS – When we have long days and big events, the booster club feeds the band meals. We often do box meals from Jason’s Deli, Which Wich and other similar restaurants. We want to make sure students with diet concerns like food allergies have an option they can eat. Please fill out the following link so that we may prepare for this week.

SPRING TRIP – Every year we decide on a trip that we can take in the spring semester to challenge our students musically, reward them for their hard work and share a little bit of culture from a different part of the country. We are very excited to do the first New York trip that the band has been on in over a decade! We understand that the financial responsibility of a spring trip can be stressful on a budget. While we would love for every single kid to participate in this trip, we know that is not always fiscally possible. It is a requirement for the band fees to be paid and for students to be eligible at the time of the trip. I hope the attached trip contract and the following prezi link can further explain the details. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

INDIVIDUAL PICTURE RETAKES – Mr. Ip will be doing retakes at his studio between 3-4:30 PM on Sept. 30th. If you are interested in a retake, please see Mr. Lang about signing up for a time.

FOOTBALL THIS WEEK – Another home game this week, vs Bowie. This will be the Jr High band night with Nichols and Shackelford 8th grade band students. It is important that students arrive on Friday with long black socks, marching shoes, the white “triangle” shirt, and thin comfortable shorts (gym shorts) to wear underneath the marching uniform pants. Part of the dress code for full uniform includes NO jewelry, nail polish and hair must be pulled up into the “shako” (marching uniform hat), most students put long hair up into a high pony/bun, etc. There will be CiCi’s after the game for $6

SAT & ACT TEST DATES – Please avoid the SAT test on Oct 3rd and the ACT test on Oct 24th. These conflict with marching band performances. There are SAT dates on Nov. 7th and Dec. 5th that will not be a band conflict.

EASY WAYS TO HELP – The booster club has initiated a few very easy ways to help support the band financially without spending any extra money! Please make sure you connect your Tom Thumb or Kroger cards to support the Lamar Band Booster Club. Go look at these very neat, easy innovative ways to support your students!

REMIND – Remind is the text service we use to communicate information via mass text. There is an app available if you would like that instead of a text or email. To sign up send a text to 81010 with the following message: Lamar Band – @lamarband, Color Guard – @lamarguard, Band Parents – @lhsbandmom, Wind Symphony – @lhsws

QUOTE OF THE WEEK – “The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.” –Denis Watley
