FALL PERFORMANCES – We have attached a pdf of the marching band performances for this fall. This should help to put things into perspective. All of this information and more is listed on the band calendar atwww.lamarmusic.org
SUPPLIES – ALL band students must have the appropriate supplies as soon as possible. Most of these items are available at local music stores. We recommend Rivard Bros, Music & Arts, Brook Mays Music and Mr. E’s.
“The Blue Book” – Foundations for superior performance in band (instrument specific!) http://www.musicarts.com/KJOS-Foundations-For-Superior-Performance-Trombone-H66054-i1567989.mac
A flip book with extra pages (often called a music folio) http://www.musicarts.com/Lyres—Flip-Folders-Marching-Band-Accessories.mac
Lyre – the device that holds the flip book to the instrument
Black binder – 1 or 1.5 inch black binder with a few sheet protectors
Extra reeds / valve oil and other instrument specific accessories http://www.musicarts.com/Vandoren-Traditional-Bb-Clarinet-Reeds-462584-i1143274.mac
We STRONGLY encourage students to buy a metronome and tuner. Another option we highly recommend is the Tonal Energy App http://tonalenergy.com/ for iOS. It is an incredible tool for musicians.
FRIDAY ITINERARY – Football game number two, another home game! Call time will be 5:45pm in the band hall, we will open the doors by 5:30pm. The game should end at approx. 10:30pm. Students are encouraged to go to CiCi’s on Eastchase from 11pm-12pm. Please bring $6 (exact change please)
BAND FEES – The $200 band activity fee is due. Students on a monthly payment plan should make the second payment this week. It is important that every student take care of fees in a timely fashion. Please contact Mr. Lang, firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have any questions or concerns.
PASSBOOKS – The passbook sale is still going on. Students will sell these coupon books for $30 each. Students have been set a target of 5 books. If any parents have any questions about this fundraiser, contact a director. Students/families who did the “donation in lieu of fundraising” are not required to do this fundraiser.
CHIPOTLE FUNDRAISER – Eat at the Chipotle on North Collins from 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sept. 9th and mention the Lamar Band. We will get 50% of each purchase! This is the best restaurant fundraiser opportunity. Please help us take advantage of this generous offer. Spread the word!
MARCHING SEASON TIPS –
• Hydrate – Plenty of water and sports drink all day long
• Proper Diet – Stay away from processed foods/carbonated drinks/etc.
• Be rested – Keep a regular sleeping pattern
• Be studied – Have strength academically
• “The pain of discipline now, or the pain of regret later”
VOLUNTEERS – With 171 students in the Lamar Band, it takes an army to get these kids taken care of at football games and marching contests. We needs drivers for the trucks, people to push equipment onto the field, chaperones for the bus, helpers for feeding the students meals and parents in the audience cheering on these amazing young musicians! Please let the booster club know when you will be able to assist us in the many tasks it takes to provide our students with top notch support. For information about booster clubs, parents volunteers and marching band info in general, check out this great website, http://www.amparents.org/
PERCUSSION – Remember to get signed up for the Remind101 from Mr. Bibb. See him for details.
COLOR GUARD – If any guard members still have sonic cards, please turn them into Mr. Lang. If you need more to sell, see Mr. Lang.
BAND CALENDAR – Events are always listed on the band google calendar. https://lamarmusic.org/calendar/
REMIND – For the Lamar Band texts, send a text to 469-643-4593 and put @lamarband as the text info.
