FOOTBALL GAME — We have our first football game this Friday. I hope to see a lot of parents in the stands supporting the Vikings! The students should be in the band hall at 5:30 with summer uniform (white socks and shoes!), instrument, music/flip book, sunscreen and bug spray already applied. We will leave by 6:00 and return around 11:00pm. I will try to send a tweet or text message when we know what time we will get back to Lamar. You can get band tweets from @AlanLangLHS or from the band facebook page. The text program explanation is listed at the bottom of this message.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — We have many events this fall that require parent support. To help with band events, you must be and AISD approved volunteer. The application can be found at aisd.net. After approved, go to the band website to find out more. https://lamarmusic.org/
PASSBOOKS (update) — Prizes have been announced! The top seller will receive a $100 visa gift card. The second place seller will get a $50 gift card and $25 for third place. Passbooks have been handed out and students are expected to sell 3 passbooks at $30 per book. This is a big fundraiser for the program and we hope it continues to be successful. We encourage students to sell as many passbooks as possible.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND EXHIBITION PERFORMANCE — On Friday Aug. 24th we had our annual ice cream social and first public performance of the year. Thanks to the boosters and ViQueens for the ice cream and cookies. The band and drill team had fantastic performances and the support from the crowd was great.
MARCH-A-THON (update) — This fundraiser has been completed. If anybody has money to turn in, please do so as soon as possible. Contact the booster club to do the opt-out donation before the deadline.
STUDENT SCHEDULES (update) — We are turning in corrections to the counselors every day. The first step is always to go to the class listed on the schedule during the school day. When an error is present, see Mr. Lang or Mrs. Burum ASAP. We can expedite the process for fixing a schedule problem if it relates to band classes. ALL band students, by default, she be double blocked in band.
VOICE OF LAMAR (update) — We have filled the announcer position for the year. If anybody is interested in helping out as a sub for the band announcer at football games, let me know.
FORMS AND FEES (update) — Band forms and fees are due. Students that did not come to band registration should get this in to a director ASAP. Students will not travel with the band if they have missing forms. Students should also have paid their band fee.
SUMMER UNIFORM (update) — Please contact Joan Miller or Mrs. Burum (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have summer uniform issues.
TEXTING WITH IZIGG — The band has started a new form of communication: text broadcasting with iZigg. This program allows the directors to send important updates via text. This will mostly be used in situations where information needs to be sent quickly. Examples might be an alert when we are only 10 mins from Lamar after an away football game, or the band made finals at a competition and will be performing at a new time. To sign up, just send a text to the number 90210 and put LHSband in the message. You will then receive occasional messages about band events. If you ever want to opt out, just send STOP in the message.
