REGISTRATION — Freshmen registration is tomorrow morning (Thursday Aug 16th). This is where students pick up their schedules. It is very important that students miss as little as possible of rehearsal as we are learning more complex elements from our drill writer. If at all possible, we ask that students go to registration from 5pm — 8pm. Lines should be shorter at that time and they will not miss any important information.
BAND PHOTOS — The band will be taking individual and section photos on Monday Aug. 20th. We will use the following schedule. Flutes-8:00, Clarinets-8:30, Saxes-9:00, Trumpets-9:30, Mellos-10:00, Trombones-10:30, Baritones-11:00, Tubas-11:30, Percussion-12:00, Guard & Drum Majors-12:30
SUMMER BAND CAMP (update) — Rehearsals have been great and we are on schedule to learn the 1st and 2nd movements of the show by the time we have our exhibition performance. Oliver Bullock has been working with the students and teaching some important elements of the show. Next week our schedule is different due to teacher in-service meetings that the directors must attend. We will practice from 5:00 -9:00 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Next Friday we will rehearse 4:00 – 7:30.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND EXHIBITION PERFORMANCE — On Friday Aug. 24th at 8pm, the band and drill team will perform their first public performance of the season. Afterwards, we will have ice cream and mingle with the drill team.
FORMS AND FEES — Band forms and fees are due. Students that did not come to band registration should get this in to a director ASAP. The first football game is the first week of school and is an away game. Students will not travel with the band if they are missing forms. Students should also have paid their band fee.
SUMMER UNIFORM — For the exhibition performance and first game, we will be wearing our summer uniform. If students have not received their summer uniform, they should see a director ASAP. Once paid for, the summer uniforms will be available for pickup.
TEXTING WITH IZIGG — The band has started a new form of communication: text broadcasting with iZigg. This program allows the directors to send important updates via text. This will mostly be used in situations where information needs to be sent quickly. Examples might be an alert when we are only 10 mins from Lamar after an away football game, or the band made finals at a competition and will be performing at a new time. To sign up, just send a text to the number 90210 and put LHSband in the message. You will then receive occasional messages about band events. If you ever want to opt out, just send STOP in the message.
MARCH-A-THON — The band boosters have started the March-A-Thon fundraiser to raise money to support the band this fall. Students are asked to collect pledges for every hour marched/rehearsed during our first two weeks of band camp. The prize incentives for the student with the most pledges/donations are 2 Nook Tablets (eBook reader), a $50 iTunes card and 2 $25 sonic cards. The pledges and/or donations are due Aug. 23rd and checks should be made to LBBC.
PASSBOOKS — Passbooks have been handed out and students are expected to sell 3 passbooks at $30 per book. This is a big fundraiser for the program and we hope it continues to be successful. We encourage students to sell as many passbooks as possible.
SCHEDULE CHANGE — Coach Fuller just informed me that the Keller Central game has changed to Saturday Sept. 15th The time and location will remain the same but the date is now Saturday instead of Friday. We currently have the HEB drumline competition that day but Mr. Bibb and I are working on a plan to make it work.
