Rehearsals This Week – Due to teacher in-service meetings, we have an altered schedule this week. This has changed a couple of times due to variables outside of our control.
Monday – 1:00pm-5:00pm
Tuesday – 4:00pm-8:00pm
Wednesday – 4:00pm-8:00pm
Thursday – 4:00pm-8:00pm
Friday – 4:30pm-9:00pm
Students will need to have a water jug with them at all practices. Students should also wear a strong sunscreen. A dermatologist recommended to me “Neutrogena – Sport (Beach Defense) 70spf”. Anything 50spf or higher is strongly encouraged.
Band Camp – Two weeks and 80 hours of rehearsal in the books! The students learned 39 sets of drill and learned the music to all 3 parts of the show! We now have about half of the entire competition show on the field playing, marching, and spinning! Incredible hard work from the students these past two week. The staff is very pleased. A big thanks to all of our adult instructional staff the past two weeks: Mrs. Klas, Mr. Patterson, Mr. Nagel, Mr. Stein, Mr. Karafotis, Mr. Riley, Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Phonsa, Ms. Eng, Ms. Ari, Ms. Vanessa, and Ms. Olivia. The band directors could not have taught all that the students learned without their dedication and expertise.
Ice Cream Social – This Friday August 18th, we will host our preview performance of the competition show, perform with the ViQueens, and afterwards enjoy an ice cream social with families from band and drill team! This is a fun tradition at Lamar and we would love to see all parents, family and friends this Friday at 8:00pm on Cravens field at Lamar. Students will bring the following on Friday afternoon. Seniors-gourmet ice cream, Juniors-vanilla or chocolate ice cream, Sophomores-cookies or brownies, and Freshmen-ice cream toppings.
The Voice of The Pride of Lamar – Our loyal announcer, Brent Dow, is retiring from being the voice of the Lamar band and the ViQueens. His kids have not been students at Lamar for many years, yet, he kept on coming to every game to announce us at half-time. We greatly appreciate all he did for the band and we will miss his presence…particularly the Thriller show! We are looking for a parent with a big voice that would like to be our announcer during halftime this fall. Email a director and let us know if you are interested.
Color Guard – The color guard practice schedule is slightly different this week. There will not be practice on Monday or Thursday from 1-5 like we originally planned.
Monday – 6:00pm-9:00pm
Tuesday – 4:00pm-9:00pm
Wednesday – 4:00pm-9:00pm
Thursday – 4:00pm-9:00pm
Friday – 4:30pm-9:00pm
Transportation – If you need assistance with a ride to rehearsal, fill out the form. https://goo.gl/hRA3NU
Students leadership and booster will help you coordinate.
Schedule and Calendar – The band directors are finalizing our fall calendar of events and plan on having a pdf sent out early this week. In the meantime, please go to https://lamarmusic.org/
Terry Ip photography – Mr. Ip will not be taking individual portraits in the full marching band uniform like we have done in the past. Too few families were purchasing the photo packages for it to be a viable business venture. He is willing to take these photos in his studio if there are families interested in purchasing a photo shoot package. For more info, contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org
Summer Uniform – During the hot summer months of band, we wear a “summer uniform” in place of the full marching band uniform that we wear most of the fall. The white polo is embroidered with our LB logo and is $20. The cap has Lamar Band embroidered and is $10. If you have questions email email@example.com and myself firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students must acquire on their own the rest of the summer uniform. The shorts will need to be khaki shorts (NOT cargo) that are about 9 inches long or more. Some examples are offered in the following links. The students should wear a solid brown or black belt. Shoes should be mostly white athletic shoes and socks should be short white socks.
EXAMPLES (exact brands NOT required)
