SUMMER BAND CAMP IS UNDER WAY!
What a great start! The Pride of Lamar is shaping up quickly and starting to sound great. After three days we have learned the new “Spirit Show”, worked hard on the 1st movement of the show and developed strong fundamental skills. So far everything is going ahead of schedule.
Remember these important tips:
• Hydrate – Plenty of water and sports drink all day long
• Proper Diet – Stay away from processed foods/carbonated drinks/etc.
• Be rested – Keep a regular sleeping pattern
• Be studied – Have strength academically
• “The pain of discipline now, or the pain of regret later”
Students are expected to attend all rehearsals. Failure to do so will affect the students standing in the marching band next fall. For students in summer school or on previously planned family vacations, a note from a parent/ guardian may excuse that student so that they remain in good standing. However, when students miss rehearsals, it is often very difficult to catch up, particularly when we are learning drill to the competition show in August. Even with an excused absence, students who miss the August summer band rehearsals will be starting very far behind and are subject to starting in an alternate or JV position. A job is not an excused absence in the Lamar band program.
GET FIT DAY – If you missed get fit day/registration day, please contact a director to get caught up with all the forms and uniform sizing.
GREAT NEWS FROM AISD FINE ARTS – As of today, the school district has decided to do away with the instrument rental fee. This is the fee that students who use a school owned instrument (tuba, percussion, etc.) paid every year to help maintain the equipment.
From the Fine Arts office: “Given the district goal of increasing active student involvement in extra/co-curricular activities to 100% this communication is to let staff know that – to remove barriers from participation and promote student access and excellence in instrumental music – effective immediately, the Instrument Rental Fee for participation is AISD bands and orchestra has been removed.”
For those families who paid the AISD Instrument Rental fee at registration last weekend, I have all checks/cash at the school. I can return the check or money to you in whatever way you see fit. Please email me at email@example.com to tell me your preference on returning this fee.
SUMMER UNIFORMS – If you do not yet have the summer uniform, please let Mrs. Burum know ASAP! We will be wearing these at the performance on Aug. 22nd.
PERCUSSION – Remember to get signed up for the Remind101 from Mr. Bibb. See him for details.
COLOR GUARD – Due to unforeseen conflicts of schedule, we decided to cancel rehearsals for this week. We will resume with the scheduled rehearsals on Monday August 11th. Our director of color guard, Malan Messemore, will return. We will also introduce our new asst. guard instruction Mr. Caleb Hunter.
BAND CALENDAR – Events are always listed on the band google calendar. https://lamarmusic.org/
REMIND – Remind101 is now called Remind. Nothing else has changed. I will continue to use it for mass texting to the band as well as small groups. For the Lamar Band texts, send a text to 469-643-4593469-643-4593 and put @lamarband as the text info.
