SUMMER BAND CAMP – HERE WE GO!

The band staff is excited to get going on our new show! We want to make sure everyone knows what to bring on the first day. New members first day is Friday, everyone else is next Monday. Make sure you have your instrument, all your music, comfortable clothes for marching outside in the heat, sunscreen, a hat and/or sunglasses and most important, A LARGE WATER JUG!

Remember these important tips:

• Hydrate – Plenty of water and sports drink all day long

• Proper Diet – Stay away from processed foods/carbonated drinks/etc.

• Be rested – Keep a regular sleeping pattern

• Be studied – Have strength academically

• “The pain of discipline now, or the pain of regret later”

Students are expected to attend all rehearsals. Failure to do so will affect the students standing in the marching band next fall. For students in summer school or on previously planned family vacations, a note from a parent/ guardian may excuse that student so that they remain in good standing. However, when students miss rehearsals, it is often very difficult to catch up, particularly when we are learning drill to the competition show in August. Even with an excused absence, students who miss the August summer band rehearsals will be starting very far behind and are subject to starting in an alternate or JV position. A job is not an excused absence in the Lamar band program.

AUGUST 1st – On Friday August 1st we will start with a new member and leadership rehearsal. We will rehearse from 7:00am to noon.

AUGUST 2nd – On Saturday Aug. 2nd, we will have our annual “Get Fit Day”. I will be sending out forms to be filled out and turned in. We will have a notary available to sign the medical form. This is an important day for all parents to attend. Students should coming during their scheduled time listed below.

  • Seniors & Juniors – 9:00am to 10:30am

  • Sophomores – 10:30am to noon

  • Freshmen A-K – 1:00pm to 2:30pm

  • Freshmen L-Z – 2:30 to 4:00pm

Please do your best to arrive at the beginning of your time period. It would also help move things along if the forms are already filled out. Students should dress in shorts and a t-shirt so that they may try on the uniform over their clothes.

AUGUST 4TH – On Monday August 4th we will begin our two-a-day practices. Students will march outside from 7:00-11:00. We will have a long break for lunch and rest from 11:00-1:30. If you don’t have a ride for lunch, you are welcome to stay at school. You can bring a sack lunch. Students are not permitted to get a ride to lunch with upperclassmen without parent permission. We will have activities and practice rooms open during the end of the lunch break. From 1:30-4:00 we will rehearse music inside the building or in the shade. From August 4th to August 15th we will learn a very large portion of the show.

FORMS – There are various forms that AISD, LHS, UIL or AMEP require every year. The Lamar band directors always try to keep it as simple as possible. The forms are attached to this email. Feel free to print, read and sign these forms. The medical form must be notarized. This can be done in person at our “Get Fit Day” on August 2nd. All forms can be turned in at that time. The $200 band fee is due as well. If you have any questions, please contact a director.

SUMMER UNIFORMS – Another order will be placed on Aug 2nd at “Get Fit Day”.

PERCUSSION – The drumline will rehearse along with the band during band camp. Please contact Mr. Bibb mbibb@aisd.net with any questions or concerns.

COLOR GUARD –  Guard camp is going GREAT! It’s only Tuesday and they know half of the 1st movement. Rehearsals are running from 8:00am to 3:00pm with an hour break for lunch. Guard students will start following the band camp schedule next week. We also expect to see everyone at Get Fit Day this Saturday.

BAND CALENDAR – Events are always listed on the band google calendar. https://lamarmusic.org/calendar/

REMIND – Remind101 is now called Remind. Nothing else has changed. I will continue to use it for mass texting to the band as well as small groups. For the Lamar Band texts, send a text to 469-643-4593 and put @lamarband as the text info.
