Viking Band Weekly Announcements 6/6/12

CHARMS ACCESS — Our online database is rolled over to the new school year. If you have never logged onto charms, I encourage you to do so and be sure the information is correct. We have a new function for the aspiring young composers out there. Full featured “Noteflight” is included in your Lamar band charms account. This is a music notation program that many of our students already use for music theory. Feel free to play around with this excellent music software.
For those new to the Lamar band, I have attached a .jpg of what the user interface looks like. To get to your account, go to Choose ENTER from the menu and select parent/student. From there, you will need to put in lamarband (one word and lowercase). After that, the student password SHOULD be the school ID number. If that doesn’t work, contact Mr. Lang (
NEW MEMBER MARCHING CAMP (update) — This past weekend the new members of the Lamar band participated in the annual new member marching camp. The students did an amazing job and looked and sounded great. They learned many of the fundamentals they will use in marching season. The band staff had a great time and hope that the kids did as well. The student leaders did an excellent job and we look forward to their leadership in the upcoming season.
TMEA ALL-STATE MUSIC — The etude books for next year’s TMEA audition music have been announced. The list can be found at The specific etudes will be announced July 19th on the same website.
MARCHING SEASON VIDEOS — At the banquet we were handing out DVD-R Data disks with recordings from several marching band events. Please keep in mind; these are Data disks not videos. They will only play on a computer once you have opened the disk in your computers file browser. If you did not pick one up or it isn’t working, you can go to the following website to download the videos. When you get a chance, please thank Mark Breedlove and the LBBC for making these videos available.
GRADUATION 2012 (update) — Graduation went well on Sunday and the band performed very well. I was particularly proud of their behavior during the ceremony. Thanks students for a great day! Seniors, we will miss you!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK — “The average person puts only 25 percent of his energy and ability into his work. The world takes off its hat to those who put in more than 50 percent of their capacity, and stands on its head for those few and far between souls who devote 100 percent.” — Andrew Carnegie
