LAMAR BAND SUMMER NEWSLETTER – If you can’t find the summer letter and the summer calendar, they are now available on the band website. You can find the link on the front page in the Announcements and Photos section “Lamar Summer Info”. https://lamarmusic.org/
ARLINGTON INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE – This week we start our rehearsals to prepare for the parade on July 4th. Students need to be prepared to be outside. All band members need to wear comfortable athletic shoes to practice. It is required that all students bring a water bottle. We prefer 32oz or bigger water jugs. The parade camp will prepare us for the parade as well as propel us into the fall marching season. ATTENDANCE WILL BE TAKEN EVERY DAY. THIS YEAR THE STAFF WILL USE THE PARADE CAMP AS A COMPONENT OF THE AUDITION FOR VARSITY SPOTS FOR THE SHOW THIS FALL, CAESAR & CLEOPATRA.
Go to this website for a lot of important info regarding parade day. There is a specific drop off zone and other details for a successful parade experience. http://www.arlington4th.org/
SUMMER UNIFORM – The uniform for the parade is the summer uniform. Students will need to provide their own white athletic shoes, white socks, khaki shorts (no cargo shorts), black or brown belt. New polos have been ordered for new members as well as old members who told us they needed a new one. We will also have the Lamar Band cap. Sunglasses are optional but sunscreen is strongly encouraged.
TUESDAY MUSIC SECTIONALS – On Tuesday during the summer, we will have lessons, sectionals and full band practice during the day. Private lessons will occur in the mornings, sectionals from 1:00-4:00 and full band from 4:15-5:30. Here is the excerpt from the summer band calendar:
Brass & Woodwinds
1:00-2:00 Flutes and Low Brass
2:00-3:00 Clarinets and Trumpets
3:00-4:00 Saxes and French Horns
4:15-5:30 Full Band
1:00-3:00 Front Ensemble
COMMUNITY OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY – The Lamar band has been ask to participate in a music video. Not as musicians, but as dancers! This is a great cause and a local organization wanted us to join them for this cause. They would like 10-15 students to participate. If you are interested, please email me soon! Here is a bit more info.
“We’d love to include the band students holding their instruments, wearing pink gloves and dancing along with us (once consent is provided, attached is a consent form). We will be filming our video on Friday, July 15 starting at 8am @ Arlington Cancer Center. The video competition also includes a fundraising component so for the next 7 weeks our center along with three others, Team Texas Health Oncology, will be raising funds for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in October in Arlington, TX.”
FEES – Fees are due at Get Fit Day on July 30th. If you prefer to make separate payments spaced out over the summer, feel free to do so. Students can put checks, cash or money orders in an envelope and hand deliver it to Mr. Lang in the band office. You can now pay online with a credit card. Be aware, there is a service fee for doing it this way.
COLOR GUARD – You can drop off your next payment for fees and uniforms during parade camp week.
