Announcements 6/27/12

PARADE REHEARSALS – Parade rehearsals start this Friday June 29th at 4:00pm in the band hall. Remember to bring a water jug. We will have 10 gallon coolers of ice water to refill your water jugs, but you MUST bring your own water jug with water in it. Wear comfortable and light colored clothing. It will be warm!

SUMMER UNIFORMS (UPDATE!) — Summer uniforms are ordered and on the way. Upperclassmen check your closets and make sure you uniform is ready to go, and clean! Also, be sure you have your white athletic shoes for the uniform.
NEW MEMBERS — Parts of the summer uniform we do not supply are 100% white athletic shoes, white socks, and a black or brown belt. We understand finding 100% white shoes is difficult; please do your best to have as few other colors as possible. Also, if the shoes are new, we recommend wearing them to rehearsals to break them in.

PARENT MEETING — On Monday July 2nd there will be a parent meeting in the band hall at 7pm. This is an informational meeting regarding the 4th of July parade, as well as August band camp. We would love to see as many parents as possible at this meeting.

VOLUNTEERS — If you have been an approved AISD volunteer this past school year, your approved status will end June 30th. The AISD volunteer office is processing new applications daily starting July 1st. The link is http://www.aisd.net/departments/Volunteer.aspx

CALENDAR CHANGE — The band calendar should reflect a small change/addition in August. We will have a leadership only meeting on Friday Aug. 3rd from 9-1. On Saturday Aug. 4th we will have band registration. This will be the day we will hand out handbooks, forms, booster club registration, charms database updates, fees and students will be fitted for their marching uniforms. MARACHING SHOW — The audio file and sheet music for the first movement of the fall show, New Planet, is now on Charms for download and listening/practicing. Students, I encourage you to practice with the audio file but please do not share this with non-Lamar students. Let’s keep it a secret until our first show!

CONGRATULATIONS — Keegan Peck was selected as a UIL OUTSTANDING PERFORMER at the 2012 state solo & ensemble contest. “Of the approximately 90,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contests and the 24,000 musicians who performed at TSSEC, only 252 students earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an OUTSTANDING PERFORMER. This achievement is truly a mark of musical excellence.” Be sure to ask him about his big state champion medal.

TMEA ALL-STATE MUSIC — The etude books for next year’s TMEA audition music have been announced. The list can be found at http://www.tmea.org/divisions-regions/band/audition-material/fmpro?-format=/Etudes/bandbooks.htm The specific etudes will be announced July 19th on the same website.
