PARADE REHEARSALS – Parade rehearsals start Friday June 29th at 4pm. Don’t be late!

PHOTO OP — If any band students are available, the football program committee needs people to take photos at local venues. The first photo is at Mercado Juarez this Wednesday at 6pm (please arrive early). This of course is completely optional but it would be a good way to get an extra pic in the football program. Wear a summer uniform or a band t-shirt. The following info is from the football program committee: “We will be taking the group pictures for the football program advertisers on June 20th starting at Mercado Juarez at 6:00. We would love to have a bunch of the kids from band, thor corps, Stuco, Drill Team, Cheer, Football players and trainers to show up for these advertisers. Please wear Lamar shirts/uniforms.”

SUMMER UNIFORMS (update) — The summer uniforms have been ordered. If you did not get a chance to place an order, we will have extras available. Any student who tried on a uniform during freshmen camp was automatically ordered those sizes. If you have any questions, please contact the band office.

CALENDAR CHANGE — The band calendar should reflect a small change/addition in August. We will have a leadership only meeting on Friday Aug. 3rd from 9-1. On Saturday Aug. 4th we will have band registration. This will be the day we will hand out handbooks, forms, booster club registration, charms database updates, fees and students will be fitted for their marching uniforms. MARACHING SHOW — The audio file and sheet music for the first movement of the fall show, New Planet, is now on Charms for download and listening/practicing. Students, I encourage you to practice with the audio file but please do not share this with non-Lamar students. Let’s keep it a secret until our first show!

CONGRATULATIONS — Keegan Peck was selected as a UIL OUTSTANDING PERFORMER at the 2012 state solo & ensemble contest. “Of the approximately 90,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contests and the 24,000 musicians who performed at TSSEC, only 252 students earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an OUTSTANDING PERFORMER. This achievement is truly a mark of musical excellence.” Be sure to ask him about is big state champion medal.

PARENT MEETING — On Monday July 2nd there will be a parent meeting in the band hall at 7pm. This is an informational meeting regarding the 4th of July parade, as well as August band camp. We would love to see as many parents as possible at this meeting.

CHARMS ACCESS — Our online database is rolled over to the new school year. If you have never logged onto charms, I encourage you to do so and be sure the information is correct. We have a new function for the aspiring young composers out there. Full featured “Noteflight” is included in your Lamar band charms account. This is a music notation program that many of our students already use for music theory. Feel free to play around with this excellent music software.
For those new to the Lamar band, I have attached a .jpg of what the user interface looks like. To get to your account, go to https://www.charmsoffice.com/ Choose ENTER from the menu and select parent/student. From there, you will need to put in lamarband (one word and lowercase). After that, the student password SHOULD be the school ID number. If that doesn’t work, contact Mr. Lang (dlang@aisd.net)

TMEA ALL-STATE MUSIC — The etude books for next year’s TMEA audition music have been announced. The list can be found at http://www.tmea.org/divisions-regions/band/audition-material/fmpro?-format=/Etudes/bandbooks.htm The specific etudes will be announced July 19th on the same website.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — It is time to start looking ahead. We are in need of volunteers for many different band activities like the 4th of July Parade that will be here before you know it. If you are willing to help, please contact Linda Nichols at linda.nichols@fmr.com . Tell her the types of activities you can help with….. Water service, Food service, Chaperone, Equipment repair, Donations, and much more; WE NEED YOU! We have a huge need right now to find individuals who have a truck with a class IV hitch and some experience pulling trailers. Each year for the 4th of July and throughout football season we need drivers to pull our equipment trailers. Please get in touch soon, the need for help will be here before you know it.
