LAMAR BAND SUMMER NEWSLETTER – Today I sent a comprehensive list of schedule changes and band class assignments to the counselors. They will go through and add band classes to each student’s schedule. Everything should be in place in early August in regards to student schedules. If you have any concerns, first contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. In August the counselors will have the full class schedules ready and you may contact them at that time.
All band students will be double blocked. The only exception are in the rare cases when it isn’t possible to do so. For instance, for students in choir and band, they will double block band in the fall and then double block choir in the spring. There are many pieces to the Lamar HS scheduling puzzle. The teachers and coaches are the best at working it. Contact us to work out anything you think might be a conflict.
TUESDAY MUSIC SECTIONALS – On Tuesday during the summer, we will have lessons, sectionals and full band practice during the day. Private lessons will occur in the mornings, sectionals from 1:00-4:00 and full band from 4:15-5:30. Here is the excerpt from the summer band calendar:

UNT Dual Credit Music History: June 13th Deadline for Application – Are you going to be a Junior or Senior next school year? Are you interested in earning college credit outside of the school day? The University of North Texas College of Music and AISD are proud to announce a partnership to offer Dual Credit Music History this Fall. Taught by a UNT Music Professor, this is a district wide offering for AISD Juniors and Seniors. The class will be held on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 7:50pm at Arlington High School. T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST – Show us your creative talent! Submit an appropriate design and your shirt could be sold at next year’s games! Send submissions to Shannon Adams at email@example.com Accepting submissions from June 13th-June 24th. Designs will be voted on during the 4th of July camp.
FEES – Fees are due at Get Fit Day on July 30th. If you prefer to make separate payments spaced out over the summer, feel free to do so. Students can put checks, cash or money orders in an envelope and hand deliver it to Mr. Lang in the band office. You can now pay online with a credit card. Be aware, there is a service fee for doing it this way.
COLOR GUARD – The color guard had a successful camp last week. They worked extremely hard and learned a bit of the fall show! We will combine guard and band on June 29th for parade camp.
LEADERSHIP – I am very excited about the opportunity that the leadership team is about to experience. The marching band leadership team will be going to Texas A&M Commerce this Sunday for a week long drum major, leadership and color guard camp. The internationally renowned Frank Troyka and the team from System Blue (Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps) will lead a huge camp of high school band and guard kids. I can’t wait to see what our kids learn during this experience. https://systemblue.org/events/
Leadership students go here to make sure you bring everything.
