Viking Band Weekly Announcements 5/30/12

8th GRADERS! NEW MEMBER MARCHING CAMP — This Friday, June 1st from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. We will start checking out instruments and music to all new members. We will practice music and start marching. On Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00am to noon, we will do a lot of marching and will get sizes from all students for summer uniforms. Student leaders and current band students who would like extra marching practice will be in attendance as well.

TMEA ALL-STATE MUSIC — The etude books for next year’s TMEA audition music have been announced. The list can be found at The specific etudes will be announced July 19th on the same website.

MARCHING SEASON VIDEOS — At the banquet we were handing out DVD-R Data disks with recordings from several marching band events. Please keep in mind; these are Data disks, not videos. They will only play on a computer once you have opened the disk in your computers file browser. If you did not pick one up or it isn’t working, you can go to the following website to download the videos. When you get a chance, please thank Mark Breedlove and the LBBC for making these videos available.

2012-13 MARCHING BAND — ALL members are invited to read Captain America March with the incoming freshmen on Friday at 5:30pm. We will work on Captain America as well as Fight Song and Eye of the Tiger. Marching band music and stand tunes are being copied and distributed. We will have packets of stand tunes available at the 4th of July camp. If you want to check out an instrument for the summer, please see Mrs. Burum.

BAND ACTIVITY FEES — Any unpaid fees are now past due and a list of these unpaid fees has been submitted to the Lamar bookkeeper. Please take care of any late payments asap! If you need to apply for financial aid, please see Mr Pease soon.

GRADUATION 2012 – All Non-Senior members of the band will be performing at Graduation this year. The Graduation Band will rehearse on Thursday, May 31st immediately after school. For Graduation, everyone will meet in the Lamar Band Hall at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 3rd. Dress will be “Sunday best”. We will warm up, ride a bus to UTA, play for graduation, and then ride the bus back to Lamar. We should be back at Lamar around 5:30 PM.

SHOWCASE IN THE SQUARE – The town of Southlake and Apex Arts Association are pleased to announce the 2nd annual Showcase in the Square at Southlake Town Center. Showcase in the Square will feature 4 Texas based Drum Corps. This event will be held Father’s Day evening, and is free to the public. See attached flyer.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — It is time to start looking ahead. We are in need of volunteers for many different band activities like the 4th of July Parade that will be here before you know it. If you are willing to help, please contact Linda Nichols at . Tell her the types of activities you can help with….. Water service, Food service, Chaperone, Equipment repair, Donations, and much more; WE NEED YOU! We have a huge need right now to find individuals who have a truck with a class IV hitch and some experience pulling trailers. Each year for the 4th of July and throughout football season we need drivers to pull our equipment trailers. Please get in touch soon, the need for help will be here before you know it.
