NEW YORK – Where do I begin? I suppose I can start with the very best part. The students on the NYC trip were superior ambassadors for Lamar, Arlington and Texas! I don’t know if I’ve ever been this proud of a group of kids on a spring trip. We walked over 45,000 steps and according to my iPhone 18.72 miles! Principal Brad Davis was also very pleased and impressed with the amount the kids got to do / see on the trip for the price they paid. Hats of to our travel company John and the staff at GTC! A super huge thanks to all the chaperones that traveled with us to NYC! They did an amazing job keeping our kids safe and showing them a good time.
BAND BANQUET – This Saturday is the band & orchestra awards banquet at the Arlington Professional Development Center (address on the ticket). Students can purchase tickets this week from Mr. Lang. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. Students must have paid all band fees before purchasing a ticket to the banquet. Hope to see everyone there!
EOC TESTING – Monday and Tuesday this week will be EOC testing dates. The students have been given the information regarding their responsibilities the next two days. I have attached the LHS bell schedule and EOC info to this email.
WIND SYMPHONY – We will rehearse during our shortened classes on Monday and Tuesday. Please work on “A Weekend In New York” on a daily basis.
FULL ORCHESTRA – Remember, we have rehearsal on Tuesday from 3:00-4:30. Come to rehearsal with your music prepared.
JAZZ BAND – The Lamar jazz ensembles performed at the Jones Academy Night of Jazz this past Friday. They represented LHS very well! This Saturday they will compete at the Northlake Jazz Festival in Irving.
PICNIC IN THE PARK – Mark your calendar for May 21st. This will be a celebration of all of the band students 7-12 in the Lamar network. Bands will perform, there will be food trucks, games and lots of fun! Bring the family and don’t forget lawn chairs and sunscreen! ALL band students are required to perform at this very special spring concert!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK – More music teachers are role models for minority students than teachers of any other subject. 36% of surveyed minority students identified music teachers as their role models, compared to 28% for English teachers, 11% for elementary teachers, and 7% for physical education teachers.
