SPRING CONCERT – Tonight is the annual spring band concert. The concert starts at 7:00pm. There will be a reception following the event.

CONCERT ATTIRE CHECK IN – Students will need to clean and return their tuxedos and dresses to Mrs. Burum by Wednesday the 28th. Dresses may be cleaned at home but please read the tag for instructions and remove any hem tape. Tuxedos must be dry cleaned. Bond Cleaners on Randol Mill will do the entire tux for $8.

 

INSTRUMENT CHECK IN – Students who use school owned instruments need to have them returned to Mr. Bibb tomorrow. Instruments must be clean and in working order. Any damage must be taken care of prior to check in. Brass should make sure valves and slides are lubricated. Students will be allowed to check instruments back out so they can prepare audition and graduation music.

 

LEADERSHIP – New student leaders will have a workshop with Mr. Ferrito June 27th and 28th.

 
COLOR GUARD – The color guard June camp will be held in the band hall June 9th – 12th from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Students should bring a lunch, wear comfortable clothes and bring a water jug.

 

BAND AUDITIONS – Band placements for the fall will be based on the audition at the end of the semester. Incoming freshman brass and woodwinds – Thursday, May 29th 4:30PM to 6:00PM Upperclassman brass and woodwinds – Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27-28th during class. Percussion students have already auditioned with Mr. Bibb. WIND AUDITION MATERIAL – 12 major scales and full range chromatic scale, a prepared etude or solo of the students choosing limited to 60 seconds, sight-reading excerpt.

 

JAZZ AUDITIONS – Students interested in being in the top jazz ensemble next year will need to pick up their audition music from Mr. Lang. Auditions will be held Friday May 30th.

 

GRADUATION BAND – The symphonic band and wind symphony students have been issued music to be performed at the Lamar High School graduation ceremony on June 7th at 7:00pm. Students will have a rehearsal after school on Friday June 6th from 1:00-3:00pm. Students will arrive at LHS on the 7th at 4:30 to ride the bus to graduation. All students must ride the bus to and from graduation. The dress code for the performance is “Sunday best”. For an explanation, see Burum.

 

SUMMER BAND – There are many band activities scheduled during the summer. Students are expected to attend all activities. Failure to do so will affect the students standing in the marching band next fall. For students in summer school or on previously planned family vacations, a note from a parent/ guardian will excuse that student so that they remain in good standing. However, when students miss rehearsals, it is often very difficult to catch up, particularly when we are learning drill to the competition show in August. The summer schedule is attached.

 

CALENDAR UPDATE – The band staff has added a large portion of summer and fall dates to the calendar. It is subject to change, but many of the important rehearsals and competitions have already been added. https://lamarmusic.org/calendar/
