Announcements 3/27/16

CAR WASH – The spring car wash is April 16th. ALL students will participate. We will need approx. 20 parents to serve as shift supervisors. Sign up for students will be posted in the band room this week. Parents will receive an email about volunteering. Flyer attached, invite everyone!

 

PASTA-PALOOZA – Tickets are on sale, $10. Pasta-palooza is this Thursday. All students and families are encouraged to attend this fun event benefiting the band banquet in May.

 

WIND SYMPHONY – Find time this week to record on Smart Music. Remember we will have brass/ww sectionals this Wednesday. Be prepared to rehearse the march and Green Bushes at full tempo.

 

SYMPHONIC BAND – Trumpets are having “trumpet breakfast club” on Mon, Wed, and Fri from 7:20-7:30. All trumpet players should be there!

 

JAZZ – The jazz ensemble will be competing at the Bill Watrous Jazz Competition in Huntsville on April 2nd. Report 5am leave at 5:30am. Special thanks to Cash, Plaue, and Oliver for being chaperones on the jazz 1 trip. One week left on the jazz fundraiser! Pasta-palooza performance attire, jazz 2 all black, jazz 1 formal contest wear.

 

WINTERGUARD – The varsity winterguard will compete this Saturday at the NTCA National A Championship at Birdville ISD / Thomas Coliseum. Good luck!

 

SPRING TRIP – The students going on the trip in symphonic and concert band will combine for the performance in NY. We will have our first after school rehearsal of the combined groups this Friday 3:00-4:15.

 

PICNIC IN THE PARK – Mark your calendar for May 21st. This will be a celebration of all of the band students 7-12 in the Lamar network. Bands will perform, there will be food trucks, games and lots of fun! Bring the family and don’t forget lawn chairs and sunscreen!

FUTURE LEADERS – Students who did not receive the leadership handbook and forms, please see Mr. Lang asap. All leader candidates need to let Mr. Lang know what position they desire to audition for. We will be having a 2nd meeting in the near future.

 

SMART MUSIC – Some of the assignments for the 5th six weeks will come from SmartMusic. We have 9 computers with a SmartMusic subscription in the band room. If students would like their own personal accounts for practice and recording at home, you are welcome to look into purchasing that subscription based service on your own. To create your free account for use at Lamar, go to the following link. Students will also be able to “enroll” in the correct band class.
