Announcements 3/20/16

BACK AT IT AGAIN – I sincerely hope everyone enjoyed the week off. It is good to decompress before a big final push. The important thing is that we get back at it quickly on Monday. The directors have a sense of urgency. The directors had a long productive week before the break. We have a gameplan to be successful for our UIL contests. All three of us are very passionate about the success of the students in the Lamar band. We will all show this in different ways, but our mission is the same, division 1 ratings at UIL. We are implementing some new strategies to help push in the right direction. One of which is the cell phone policy. We will be asking all students to put their phone under their chair during class. Distractions are our enemy when we are trying to work together on ensemble music. Another expectation is that no cases, backpacks, or homework will be allowed in the rehearsal. Those items must be stored in cubbies. There are 21 school days until UIL. All students must commit to performing at a high level at every opportunity.

“Hard work spotlights the character of people. Some turn up their sleeves. Some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.” – Sam Ewing

WINTERGUARD – The Lamar JV winterguard “Blue” performed this past Saturday at the NTCA Regional A Championship at Marcus HS. The guard had an excellent performance with great crowd reaction to cap of the inaugural year of the Lamar Blue Winterguard. The guard came in 5th place in their round of 10. The staff is very proud of the hard work all season and the final product at the end of it. Great job ladies!

SPRING TRIP – The spring trip final meeting is March 24th at 7:00pm. All students that are going to NYC must attend with a parent/guardian.

PASTA-PALOOZA – This is our annual fundraiser to help offset the cost of our spring banquet. Jazz, winterguard and other performances along with delicious pasta made by our booster club. Mark your calendars for March 31st at Lamar HS, 6:00pm.

PICNIC IN THE PARK – Mark your calendar for May 21st. This will be a celebration of all of the band students 7-12 in the Lamar network. Bands will perform, there will be food trucks, games and lots of fun! Bring the family and don’t forget lawn chairs and sunscreen!
