Announcements 2-6-13

SPRING TRIP — We are still looking for a couple of male chaperones for the spring trip to South Padre. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Lang.

FULL ORCHESTRA – The Lamar full orchestra is busy working on their UIL contest music. We have our pre-UIL a week from Monday at Bowie HS. Full Orchestra students must arrive by 5:30pm. Traffic is usually bad so please plan accordingly. Performance is at 7:15pm and sight-reading at 8:00pm. We would love to have as many family members and friends in the audience as possible.

CALENDAR — Please check the band calendar on a regular basis. There are many sectionals and rehearsals scheduled. We also have concerts and other events scheduled through June. Sectionals are a part of our performance grade and are not optional. The band after school schedule is minuscule compared to the fall. https://lamarmusic.org/calendar/

TEXT – Stay in touch with the band text program. If you haven’t already done so, send a text to 90210 and type LHS Band. You will begin to see occasional messages regarding upcoming band events.

ALL CITY — The students involved in the all-city clinic and concert behaved and performed nothing short of incredible this past weekend. The concert was absolutely amazing and the directors couldn’t be more proud of our Lamar student musicians. We would like to thank all the parents for their support. A big special thanks to Shannon Huggins, Dawn Bergan and Beverly Mosher-Bennett for helping with the ticket sales and CD sales.

FUNDRAISER AND FINANCES – If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Lang.
The band and band boosters try very hard to keep band fees as low as possible. Unfortunately, the expenses to run a competitive band program are higher each year. To help us keep fees low, we ask that all activity fees, solo fees and any other expense be taken care of in a timely manner. If on a payment plan for band fees, it is crucial that those payments are made on time.
To help prepare us for expenses later this spring, we are starting our 2nd fundraiser as a band program next week. We will be selling the Ghiradelli chocolate bars again as they sold very well last year and we hope to continue with their success. We have sent home a form to decide on the type of chocolate bar to sell. I have attached a copy to this email. We would like each student to sell two boxes of 12 bars equaling a profit of $50. If you paid the donation in lieu of fundraising, there is no obligation to sell.

UIL SOLO & ENSEMBLE — Students who are performing a solo and the UIL event on Feb. 23rd must pay the $12.50 fee. The entry has already been sent to UIL. Late fees are $22 per solo. These deadlines and fees are UIL mandated. Students have been assigned an accompanist. The piano scores are mostly turned in but we still lack a few. It is important to get the piano music to a director so the accompanist can practice before the first rehearsal. The directors are VERY excited that 81 students will be performing a solo at UIL this year!
