Announcements 1/22/2017

Winterguard Contest – On Jan. 28th, the Lamar band will host a very big NTCA winterguard competition. There will be approx. 80 high school, middle school and independent (college age) color guards competing. We hosted this last year to great success and a big fundraising profit! We need a lot of volunteers to run this contest. We have specific adult and student jobs. There are multiple shifts to choose from. We hope that you could volunteer some of your time. Please go to the following link and pick an open shift. We still have spots to fill!

All-City – This Friday and Saturday the students who earned a position in the All-City honor band will rehearse and perform at Bowie HS. I have attached the itinerary and info sheet to this email. Please arrange transportation to and from this event as we will not be providing buses. We hope that all parents, friends and families will attend the concert Saturday evening at 7:00pm at Bowie. Admission is $2 and all proceeds go to the Arlington Music Enrichment Program scholarship fund.

Sectionals – The directors have worked out a sectional schedule for the spring. The fall semester is easy, we all have marching band after school. In the spring, we have many different ensembles that all need after school rehearsal time. There are limited rehearsal spaces so the schedule is a bit complex. Any changes to the normal schedule will be announced as early as possible. Students must bring ALL music and a PENCIL to every sectional! Sectionals included in the class grade.

Solo & Ensemble – During the spring semester of band, one of the most important parts of our curriculum is soloistic and small ensemble skills. All students will pick a solo and/or ensemble to perform for a grade.

Wind Ensemble – Must perform either a solo or ensemble at UIL on Feb. 25th.

Symphonic & Freshmen Band – Must perform a solo or ensemble at either UIL or the LHS festival in May.

Spring Trip – If you are a parent that would like to chaperone the spring trip, please email me asap.
