WHIRLWIND – The ice storm has affected the Lamar band and continues to do so. We have had innumerable changes to our original plans, some of them 9 months old, following the “ice days”. The directors would like to thank everyone for their understanding as we work through some of the busiest weeks of the semester.
ALL REGION AUDITIONS – First, thank you to all the parents, students alumni and other volunteers that helped with hosting the auditions on Saturday. The directors arrived at 6:30am and walked out the door at 10:00pm. We couldn’t have done it without the Herculean efforts of our booster club and parent volunteers! The students were fantastic and often did their jobs without having to be asked by the directors or parents. The band directors and parents from the other school had many compliments and appreciated our hard work . This was a great day for the Lamar band and the image of Lamar HS is brighter because of the band students and parents who truly are “The Pride of Lamar”.
ALL REGION RESULTS – I am very proud of each and every student who went through what I consider one of the most important components of the Lamar instrumental music program. Auditioning isn’t about winning, it’s about learning to perform under pressure. No other experience in high school is more like a job interview than performing in front of 5 judges and 15 peers. Learning to deal with nerves and pressure can only be learned by going through it. A huge congratulations to the following students on being selected for the All-Region band. Kate Hegwer, Hestler Hernandez, Adam Dickey, Kevin Breedlove, Robert Porter, Stuart Young, Donovan Jones and Daniel Dickey. Robert, Stuart and Daniel advanced to AREA and will audition in Midland, TX on Jan. 11th for the Texas All-State band. Making an all-region band is a huge honor. These students will perform with the honor band in January. The following students earned the “district” distinction by just missing the cut. They are eligible as alternates for the honor band. Trey Mays, John Huggins, Luis Aguirre, and Jason Breedlove.
CROCK POTS AND SHEETS – If you donated a soup or bed sheets for the contest Saturday, and haven’t retrieved them. Please do so at your earliest convenience.
WINTER CONCERT – The holiday concert will be tomorrow evening at 7:00pm. The concert order will be Freshmen Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony and Jazz Band. Students need to arrive between 5:45 and 6:00 to warm-up and find their warm-up room. WS in the orchestra hall, SB in the band hall and Freshmen on stage. The students have received their concert tuxes and dresses. Young men should wear the tux jacket with black slacks, black dress shoes (or marching band shoes), black socks and a black belt. They need a white dress shirt, tux style preferred. You ng ladies will wear the dress with black closed toe shoes, flats preferred. Any adjustments/hemming to the dress or tux must be temporary and easy to take out at the end of the school year.

All band students will then be placed in different performing ensembles for the spring. Some schedules will change and we will contact the counselors with all the appropriate changes by the first week of school.
