Announcements 11/7/12

THURSDAY FOOTBALL — The call time for the game tomorrow is 5:15pm. The game starts at 7:00pm this week as it is a Thursday evening game. There will NOT be CiCi’s after the game and students will be released as soon as possible after we are finished. The drumline will perform immediately after the game as this will be their last performance before they compete at the Lonestar drumline competition on Saturday.

VETERANS DAY — The wind symphony students will perform Friday morning at 9:30 for the LHS Veterans Day Program. The ceremony is open to the public and I highly encourage families to attend the event.

SPRING TRIP — The band is planning a trip to South Padre Island, TX in April to compete in the Texas Music Festival. Further information is available from Mr. Lang and contracts and the deposit are due by Nov. 16th

DUNCANVILLE — The band staff would like to thank all the chaperones and parents who attended our final marching band contest at Duncanville last Saturday. We would also like to praise the students for their fantastic behavior throughout the day. While our ranking was not what we had hoped, we are proud of a couple of facts from the day. We improved our marching score by an average of 40 points since the Wylie contest. We also closed the gap on McKinney HS from 230 pts at Wylie, to only a 50 point gap at Duncanville. The band staff is very proud of how the students handled themselves all season. We look forward to next year as we hope to build on our successes and learn from our missteps.

LETTER JACKETS — Letter jackets have been ordered through sportswear world. They say the order should arrive in about 3 weeks.

BAND HOODIES — The LHS Band hoodies are going fast! We still have some in every size. They are $25 and checks are made to the LBBC.

ALL CITY / REGION — The students should have already turned in their all-city / all-region forms. The all-city fee is $10 and the all-region fee is $15. Auditions for 11/12 are next Monday and for 9/10 the following Monday. The auditions will once again take place at Martin HS.

FULL ORCHESTRA — Students selected for the Lamar Symphony Orchestra have been given a contract with performance dates and general guidelines for rehearsal. Concert dates are listed on the form and the students have been given a calendar. Contact Mr. Lang or Mr. Leaverton with questions / conflicts.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK — “To rejoice in another’s prosperity, is to give content to your own lot: to mitigate another’s grief, is to alleviate or dispel your own.” – Thomas Edwards
