OCTOBER – Last week was epic! Thankfully, this week will be a lot easier. Next week is UIL week so it will be a little stressful. Our competitive marching season will come to an end with the Remo Finale Series on Nov. 1st in Midlothian.
USBANDS DENTON – Thank you to all the parents who helped out on Saturday. It was a very long day and I greatly appreciate all of your help! We received great feedback from the judges and had a great score of 79.2 in finals. The field music performance judge had us 5th in finals!
REHEARSALS – As we approach our big contests of the year, our rehearsals become more and more crucial to our success. Attendance is mandatory and the performers need to be healthy, rested and hydrated. We will be practicing during class in the mornings. Students need to have their marching shoes with them for all B days. Because we cancelled rehearsal today, we are extending the next few rehearsals by 30 mins. This will still be well within the 8 hour UIL rule.
PINK OUT WEEK – In honor of breast cancer awareness month, LHS spirit teams are wearing pink to the game Friday. If band students would like a pink headband or pink bandanna, bring $2 to the band social chair, Karla Flores, by Wednesday this week.
UIL REGION – The UIL Region 5 marching contest will be Oct 21st at Pennington Field in Bedford. We perform at 8:00pm. We would like as much parent support as possible at this very important event. Our success here will qualify us for UIL Area B marching competition on Oct. 25th. This is a very competitive year as it is a state qualification year for 6A schools.
ELIGIBILITY – Students with failing grades on the first six weeks report card will lose eligibility this Friday at 2:45pm. Those students are still obligated to attend after school practices. The expectations for rehearsal will be for the students to do warm-ups and basics. When finished, a director will release them to go work on homework. The only excuse for missing a practice would be to study with a teacher/tutor or have a note from the librarian if studying and using the tutors in the library after school. Study performing in the varsity ensemble will be replaced with a junior varsity member for the remainder of the season. Once eligibility is regained, students will resume performances as a junior varsity member.
SPRING TRIP- Trip deposits are due Oct. 17th. It is very important that the trip deposit and contract are turned in by this date. This is a hard deadline set by the travel company.
VOLUNTEERS – With 169 students in the Lamar Band, it takes an army to get these kids taken care of at football games and marching contests. We need drivers for the trucks, people to push equipment onto the field, chaperones for the bus, helpers for feeding the students meals and parents in the audience cheering on these amazing young musicians! Please let the booster club know when you will be able to assist us in the many tasks it takes to provide our students with top notch support. QUOTE OF THE WEEK – “Effort is one of the things that gives meaning to life. Effort means you care about something, that something is important to you and you are willing to work for it. It would be an impoverished existence if you were not willing to value things and commit yourself to working toward them.” – Carol Dweck
