COMMUNITY OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY – The Lamar band has been ask to participate in a music video. Not as musicians, but as dancers! This is a great cause and a local organization wanted us to join them for this cause. They would like 10-15 students to participate. If you are interested, please email me soon! “We’d love to include the band students holding their instruments, wearing pink gloves and dancing along with us (once consent is provided, attached is a consent form). We will be filming our video on Friday, July 15 starting at 8am @ Arlington Cancer Center. The video competition also includes a fundraising component so for the next 7 weeks our center along with three others, Team Texas Health Oncology, will be raising funds for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in October in Arlington, TX.”
ARLINGTON INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE – I just want to say one more time that I am very impressed with the students on an excellent performance at the Arlington 4th Parade!
GET FIT DAY (BAND REGISTRATION) – July 30th is band registration day, also known as “Get Fit Day”, a catch all day designed to take care of many odds and ends related to being in the Pride of Lamar. We will verify t-shirt sizes, measure students for marching shoes, measure students for marching uniform gloves, freshmen will be fitted for marching uniforms and band spirit wear will be available from the booster club. This is also the opportunity to fill out all necessary forms for participation in band. We will have a notary available for the medical forms. These forms are attached to this email, will be on the website and also available at Get Fit Day. Finally, band fees are due on July 30th. The fee form is attached to this email. FEES – Fees are due at Get Fit Day on July 30th. If you prefer to make separate payments spaced out over the summer, feel free to do so. Students can put checks, cash or money orders in an envelope and hand deliver it to Mr. Lang in the band office. You can now pay online with a credit card. Be aware, there is a service fee for doing it this way.
SUMMER UNIFORM – All band students will need to have their summer uniform for our next public performance, August 19th. If any students missed the parade and need a polo or cap, please contact Mr. Carlton email@example.com Students will need to provide their own white athletic shoes, white socks, khaki shorts (no cargo shorts), black or brown belt.
PERCUSSION – According to the schedule, percussion is scheduled to have rehearsal this Tuesday 7/12, but due to certain circumstances percussion will not be having rehearsal. I wanted to remind everyone about our drum camp coming up July 18-22. Every day will be 9am-4pm with an hour for lunch 12-1. Students may leave the campus for lunch or they may bring their own, but we will not be providing lunch any of those days. The winds we will be having regular rehearsal on Tuesday 7/19, but percussion will be sticking to the schedule of the camp that week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
COLOR GUARD – This Saturday July 16th, CGT will be holding a guard clinic at Lamar. This open to the public at a price, but for Lamar guard it is free! We hope many of you will take advantage of this clinic. Practice daily and be prepared for guard camp July 25th – July 29th.
DRUM CORPS SHOW DALLAS – Drum Corps is the major league of marching band. These are elite organizations on a world tour. More info at www.dci.org The staff STRONGLY encourages everyone to attend. I’d like to point out that you will have the honor of seeing Phantom Regiment! (shameless plug as I was a member in 1998) Tickets range from $30-$50
